A sport that is fairly new, but has continued to grow in popularity is frisbee golf. Gameplay is generally the same as traditional golf, but with one major exception. Instead of a small white ball and golf clubs, the player uses a frisbee or a few different frisbees to work their way through the course. Frisbee golf is a fun activity, played on courses all over the United States.
Many cities in a number of states have developed frisbee golf courses, also called disc golf, and incorporated them into the natural land areas of their parks. Because many of these disc golf courses are incorporated into city parks, the cost to play at them is free. There are many courses that do charge a fee, but this is often the exception not the rule. Disc golf courses do not require mowed greens and fairways, and are sometimes played through forests on trails. A disc golf course has baskets, instead of holes, where the player tosses their disc. The course are set up with distances that allow for tee off, chip shots, and putting, just like in traditional golf.
Disc golf can be played with a single frisbee, the kind that people play catch with on a beach, but there are specialized discs created especially for playing disc golf. Many players carry a number of discs with them during play and interchange them with each shot much like a traditional golfer would choose a specific golf club.
The game is scored similiar to traditional golf. Each hole has a par that determines the number of shots the hole should take the player. If a player throws a hole in less than par the player is awarded a birdie and if over par a bogie. The winner of the round is determined by the person that completes the course in the fewest number of throws. Look for a disc golf course in your town.
