First Aid Kit

Covering thousands of miles these trails span the country.  You may choose the Pacific Crest Trail or the Appallachian Trail. Or possibly one of the more newly created trail such as the Pacific Northwest Trail. These trails will take months to complete and cover a wide range of terrain and climate. For instance the Pacific Crest Trail is 2650 miles long and extends from Mexico to Canada through the states of California, Oregon and Washington.

Some places are best left to well experienced backpackers such as far in the backcountry of Glacier National Park and other such as Smoky Mountain National Park offer fairly easy in and out access with shelters you can sleep in. Either way, it is best to be prepared, know what to expect and don’t forget your map.

There are a number of items you will need if you intend to try backpacking.

1. Tent: Unless you are on one of the few trails that have shelters along them, you will need a tent to provide shelter to sleep in, provide a barrier in areas with heavy mosquitoes, and a place to keep your stuff dry and your self warm.  Backpacking tents usually have space for one or two people. A good sleeping bag and sleeping pad are also needed.
2. Stove: In order to cook your food you will need some kind of stove.  backpacking stoves often burn white gas, but many lighter-weight stoves burn denatured alcohol. A good stove will provide you with hot meals, a most needed addition to a cold day on the trail. In addition to your stove you will need a pot and a spoon to eat your meal.
3. Water filter: Some people prefer water treatment such as iodine but a good water filter will provide you with good tasting water from a source that you can find along the way. Along with a water filter you will need a water container.
4. Map and compass:  Every hike into unknown territory requires a map.  It is best to read up on the area you will visit and plan for the unexpected.
5. Clothing and a pack: Along with sturdy shoes and a good set of clothes, and rain gear,  you need a backpack to carry all your stuff.

There are more items, but this will get you started. Be safe.

If a player throws a hole in less than par the player is awarded a birdie and if over par a bogie.  The winner of the round is determined by the person that completes the course in the fewest number of throws. At this magnification locating the bird in your range of view is fairly easy and the magnification good for identification.

The second number is the size of the objective lens which will indicate not only the amount of light but also the physical size of the binoculars.  A brighter image is important in seeing key characteristics in the birds you are viewing, but don’t buy something that is hard for you to hold up for extended periods of time. Birding should be fun, so make sure you have the tools that will help you enjoy it.

To get started watching birds is as easy as looking around you. At first, you may not be great at identifying birds by seeing them or by hearing them, but with a little practice you will be amazed at what you will find you can do.  Most people will be suprised at first at how many bird species they already know. With wonderful tools of identification guide books, resources on the internet and computer programs that teach identification by geographic area, one can learn quickly to identify birds.

One of the best ways to start watching birds is to set up a bird feeder in the backyard, buy an identification guide book and a set of binoculars. A bag of seed and a cheap feeder, a regional bird guide and a set of 8×42 binoculars shouldn’t cost you a lot.  What is important is that you get started watching. Learn birds by family if you can’t identify them to species. One of the great things about birdwatching is that everyone wants to share what they know.  go to a local birding hotspot and just hang around. You will learn a lot. Have fun.

Hobbies are like investigating your dreams at times on a small scale but not always. For instance, maybe you always dreamed of flying airplanes but never did. There are a number of ways to explore this passion in the form of a hobby.  You can start researching airplanes and learning everything you can about them. Even start collecting what items that connect you to what interests you about flying. You could start building models or flying model planes. There is no reason that life has to completely get in the way of you investigating your dreams and passions.

Hobbyists are not just limited to people collecting books of stamps, coins and cards, hidden away in their basements. Hobbyist can be seen in every walk of life and most likely the collecting of something is only a part of what that hobbyist does to enjoy their subject of interest. Choosing a hobby and engaging in it can lead you away from the armchair and into flriendships with others interested in the same subect.

It is best not to resign yourself to what life has become for you. You can choose to live out your dreams and passions on whatever level fits your life. Hobbies are wonderful ways to explore your interests.

Marc Ecko, well known car buff and creator of Ecko Clothing, has been working with Nissan to customize some of their cars. This works brilliantly for both entities, as Ecko brings the star power (and a goodly dose of moxie) to the normally conservative company. Both Ecko’s fans and Nissan’s were very impressed with the promotional Nissan Pathfinder he designed, after agreeing all the way back in 2006. This Pathfinder featured a grey “urban camo” color scheme, laser etchings on the rims, and a “safety orange” color scheme on the rims and on the tie downs at the top. Overall, it was a truly inspired urban vehicle, put together by a man known for his urban chic stylings and a company that is willing to do whatever it takes to be the best.

However, the world was even more surprised by the custom Armada Ecko designed along side the Pathfinder, in order to promote his latest clothing line. Not only does it feature a landau roof, it has a design reminiscent of a sneaker with white along the middle, and bright orange sides. Needless to say, this is definitely a stylish ride, and worthy of the Ecko corporate seal that is emblazoned across its grille. Some people initially suspected that Ecko would help with the physical design of a future automobile. That possibility has neither been confirmed nor denied by Nissan or by Ecko’s representatives.

However, it has been speculated that Mr. Ecko is going to be doing the same sort of cross promotion with Nissan that he did back in 2006 yet again. Five years later, it remains to be seen what sort of new ideas may have popped into his head. But knowing what Nissan is capable of, and the amount of free reign that they gave him to be creative in his interpretations last time, the world will definitely be in for something special when they team up again.

In many parts of the United States flying gliders has become more popular.  With the addition of technology, allowing lighter weight electric motors and at lower costs, flying gliders has become more and more accessible to hobbyists.  Once you have purchased a glider, it is important to choose your locations for flight wisely.  When choosing a location to fly it is important to consider the terrain, obsticles, line of sight, and other variables.

Before you fly your glider the first time make sure to know the range of your remote control device.  If you are not a good judge of distance, then pace it out so you have a landmark to use to gauge distance.  When you start it is important to keep your glider close but of course not too close that you hit yourself or a spectator.  Make certain you are flying in a place where nothing will get in the way of you seeing your glider at any time.

Terrain is an important consideration when choosing a location.  An open area without fences is important because you will most likely have to retrive your glider at times.  If you choose to fly on a steep slope you may find your self walking up and down that slope several times.  If you choose to fly in an open flat mowed field, retrival and launching your glider again may be much easier.

When choosing a location it is important to make sure you won’t hit anything with your glider while you are flying.  Of very high importance here is to consider power lines.  The first rule don’t fly where there are power lines, it’s that simple.  Winds can gust and you may not have any control at times where your glider goes, especially when you are a beginner.  Also watch out for trees and builidngs.  In short a flat open field is the best choice for a beginner.

Wind speed can often be determined initially by checking the weather report, either on the internet or television.  When you arrive at your destination, it is best to check the wind before getting your plane out of the car or bringing it out of the house or apartment.  Hang out for a few minutes and walk around.  Take a moment to get a sense of the wind and if it is gusting at all.   Use your sense of how the air movement feels on your hand but also listen to the sound of the wind up above you.  Look at the trees and see how much movement you can see in the branches.

Wind speed can be different on the surface compared to just a short distance up from the ground. So, even after starting a flight, pay close attention to how the wind changes at different altitudes.  It may seem safe to be flying at fifty feet but that can change drastically only a short distance higher.   You may be flying behind a wind block such as a forest and when your glider gets above the trees the wind speed can be very different.  More than one glider has flow off, out of control because of changing wind speeds.

After a few trips out with your glider you will begin to develop awareness of the environment and become better at determining if it is safe to fly.

It is really easy to get started with stamp collecting and you only need a few basic items of equipment. Stamp tongs to help handle stamps safely, a magnifying glass for closer viewing, and album for safe keeping. As far as albums go, a stock-book (where the stamps drop into clear pockets without the need for a mount) is a great purchase to keep your stamps same and protected.

To acquire the stamps, many collectors start with ones they find or by asking people they know to save unique ones they may see; asking an older relative like a grandparent is a good place to inquire as well. As the collection and interest in stamp collecting builds, attending conventions or looking online are other great ways to acquire unique, rare, and/or interesting stamps. For extremely rare stamps, air tight storage is recommended to ensure the safe keeping and protection of the stamp. Also when storing stamps, they should be stored away from light, heat, and moisture or they will be damaged.

A good collection or even a very rare stamp can be worth millions of dollars. There are some collectors in it for the money, some are in it for the hunt of finding specific stamps, and then there are others who just enjoy collecting in their past time. Whatever a collector’s reason is, they have united to create a 20 million people plus community world wide that carries on the over century long hobby of stamp collecting.

Glider airplanes are excellent for people of all ages. They work especially well for children, as they are easy to assemble and safe to fly. Most kits come with instruction guides on how to assemble them, but if you are still unsure, follow these easy steps to getting, building, and flying a new glider model airplane.

1) Find your model plane. You can find one at most if not all hobby or craft stores. Most toy aisles at various larger chain stores also carry glider model planes. Pick one that you like; there are various styles and sizes.

2) Construct the plane. Check in the packaging the plane came in or look on the back of the package for instructions on how to assemble the plane itself. The total duration of putting the parts together should take less than ten minutes and after everything is put together, the model should look like a miniature plane replica.

3) Find a good place to fly the plane. Most glider planes are made out of plastic or a form of light wood. They are indoor friendly and/or great for the outdoors. When flying outdoors be aware of the weather conditions; a windy or bad weather day would not make for a good glider flight.

4) Throw or toss the glider to make it fly. There isn’t a lot of force required when trying to make the glider fly, a nice smooth arm flick forward is all you need for a smooth sailing.

5) Have fun with it. Glider planes can be entertaining when you are by yourself, but it can also be a fun activity to do with others. If there is a group of people you can even see who can get their plane to go the furthest.

In lawn darts there are two large darts that you toss and try to get into one of three circles. The more on target you are, the more points you rack up. The team with the most points at the end wins the game. This can be played with only two people or in teams of two each.

Like lawn darts, when playing horse shoes you have to toss an object and get it as close to the target as possible. In horse shoe though you are taking an actual horse shoe and tossing it towards a stake in the ground. The object is to try and get it to the stake or as close as you can to the stake. There are points for getting it on the stake and if no one gets it on there then the points go to the person or team that got their horse shoe closest to the stake.

Croquet differs from the other two, but is still an enjoyable lawn game to play against others. There is a ball, mallet, and arched posts that you put into the ground; everyone who plays has a different color ball and mallet. The object of the game is to get your ball through all of the arch posts and be the first to make it to the end post. It can be a lot of fun with the more people you have because if you run into another players ball you can either take another turn or hit their ball out of the way!

All three are very leisurely activities to do outside and can make for a great family day!

Bird watching may not seem that fun at first, but once you spot a rare species, or a new born, or an elegantly feathered bird you’ll get hooked. Are you a serious baseball fan? Do you live, eat, and breathe baseball all summer long? If you’ve always dreamed of playing major league baseball, but in reality you really make a better fan than a spectator, here are some ways to make your love of baseball work for you.

1. Hit up a Spring Training game. Every true baseball fan goes to at least one Spring Training game. In the early spring time, when it’s still cold in many parts of the United States, you can find some of your favorite major league baseball teams practicing in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. Pack your bags and check out the Angels, Mariners, and the Padres, to name a few.

2. Follow a minor league baseball team. If you live in a smaller city or there isn’t a major team in your area, you can still enjoy professional baseball. Check to see if there’s a minor league baseball team in your town or state. You can enjoy being outdoors while listening to the crack of the bat.

3. Play some ball. Just because you don’t have a talent to play professionally, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still play baseball. Grab a few of your buddies and head out to an open field. You can pretend for a couple of hours that you are Alex Rodriguez or Derek Jeter.

4. Travel to major stadiums around the country. If you have the time and the money, make a “bucket list” of stadiums you’d like to visit. Then, spend your summer vacations visiting the baseball fields of your favorite teams. You may want to head to Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field, or go see the Angels in Anaheim.

1. If you are really serious, and you have the money to do so, you could buy a flight simulator to practice on. Yes, there are flight simulators for model airplanes as well.

2. Check the weights and balances. If you have followed all of the directions carefully, your weight should be just fine on your model airplane. When checking the airplane’s balance, you’ll want to place the tip of your index finger under each wing. Gently lift the airplane up and see if it balances. If you have balance, you’re good to go.

3. Do a “pre-flight” check. Make sure the wing and the tail are secured and control surfaces are moving correctly.

4. Check your radio control gear. Double check the batteries and make sure they have enough strength to fly the airplane.

5. Do a range check. This is an extremely important step. With a range check you’ll want to make sure the radio signal is strong enough to fly your plane at a distance away. You don’t want your airplane to go out of your radio range.

6. Most importantly, have fun! It’s all about having fun with your model airplane. This is your hobby and you should enjoy every aspect of it.

Since childhood I have had a passion for arts and sculptures. My passion grew with me and I never stopped learning new sculpture techniques. I completed my bachelors in fine arts and sculptures. I don’t remember any single day of my life when I would not have worked on any sculpture.

I just love designing sculptures and the way people look at me appreciatively. The feeling of being loved and being appreciated is so amazing that I cannot express it in words. My passion for sculpture is not just a mean of giving me appraisals but it has become a source of my living as I am earning good fortune by selling my sculptures. After every three months I arrange an exhibition in my art gallery. People seem to be waiting for my exhibition and they love to buy my art work at the price that I am looking to get.

Whenever I intend to make a sculpture I usually go to the market and get all the required stuff that is likely to be used in that sculpture. To plan my next exhibition and to make it unique and distinctive I decided to use real stones in my sculptures. The idea was unique and it required a lot of effort and investment to get the real stones and most importantly the right sized stones that I needed to fit into my sculptures so that they could turn out exactly the same as I would have imagined them. Initially I was of the view that it will be easier to get the real stones from any jeweller dealing in stones but I got nothing other than disappointment as I could not find a single jeweller that could provide the same sized stones as were required by me. I really did not want to change my plan and my vision. So, I kept contacting jewellers and the real stone dealers until I find the one through Canada 411 who could provide the same sized stones as I wanted to fit into my sculptures. The jeweller has provided me all the stones including rubies, emeralds, opals etc and now I am again busy in designing my sculptures.

I believe that my next exhibition would be a total success and would outclass my previous exhibitions.

The Sloop: The most common type of sailboat out there is called a Sloop. A Sloop is a small to midsize sailboat. The rig has one tall mast and two sails. There is a tall sail that is mounted to the mast and this is the main sail. The Sloop will have two sails.

Catboat: Where the Sloop has two sails, the Catboat will have one sail. The mast is generally positioned forward, which makes room for a main sail. The main sail in a Catboat is a traditional boom, which is usually a loose-fitted mainsail attached to the wishbone.

Ketch: Another popular sailboat for midsize boats is called a Ketch. This sailboat is very similar to the Sloop, only it has a second mast that is much smaller. This second mast is called the mizzenmast. The mizzenmast functions like a main sail.

Schooner: A Schooner has two masts that are positioned forward in the sailboat. The forward mast is smaller than the Ketch. Some more modern Schooners use a triangular sail, but traditional Schooner sailboats have gaff-rigged sails.
